Ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day, or days in the year? We certainly do! Time flies, seasons pass by in the blink of an eye and sometimes it feels like an uphill struggle to keep your business moving forward.
But this year is a Leap Year – and as they only come around once every four years we think it’s the perfect opportunity to do something special. Whether it’s treating your clients, showing appreciation for your employees or taking a much needed day off, we urge you to make this February 29th exceptional!
Here are our top ideas for making the most of this year’s ‘leap-day’:

Give your best clients some appreciation

If your business works with regular and reliable clients you’ll know just how important they are. Good client relationships often develop organically, especially when you maintain consistent good business practice. However it’s always nice to show you care – perhaps by creating a special offer, exclusive to February 29th.

Recognise your staff and their great work

Employees are the building blocks of your business – without a loyal team your business won’t function at its best. In Make More Money by Making Your Employees Happy, Dr. Noelle Nelson claims that ‘When employees feel that the company takes their interest to heart, then the employees will take company interests to heart.’ We couldn’t agree more! Providing a positive environment and supporting your staff should be a given, but why not use February the 29th as an excuse to treat them? Something as small as ordering in lunch or organising an early finish can really show your appreciation.

Update your Business Plan and Elevator Pitch

Sometimes the day-to-day of running a business can take its toll. Ever had the realisation that you last updated your business plan two years ago? Think of this February 29th as a ‘free gift’ and take the opportunity to step back and take stock. Update or even re-write your business plan and make time to meet your friends, colleagues and mentors to get business advice from a new perspective. Boost creativity and ideas by changing your surroundings – work from a cosy coffee shop, book a desk at a co-working space or, if you live in warmer climes, work outside for the day.

Take a much needed day off!

If there’s one thing all small businesses have in common, it’s hardworking people at the helm. However, running yourself into the ground won’t do you or your business any good at all. Given that this year we have a whole extra day, we wholeheartedly recommend you take that day off for some relaxation and recuperation. Book an aromatherapy massage or take a trip to the countryside for some much-needed fresh air. Or, alternatively, cosy up on the sofa with a glass of wine and some Netflix. You’ll feel like a whole new you!
