It’s relatively easy to register with HMRC for Self Assessment, PAYE or VAT.
If you want to do it yourself then visit HMRC website and complete the online registration.
Once registered, you’ll receive a Government Gateway ID (a 12 digit user ID code) and an activation PIN (sent to you in the post – it could take 7-10 days to arrive).
Keep a note of your government Gateway details in a safe place – you’ll need them regularly.
Once your PIN arrives, you need to log into your HMRC online account using your Government Gateway ID and password, and then key in the activation PIN.
Once you’ve successfully submitted your details you can log in for:
- Self Assessment
- Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
- Corporation Tax
- PAYE for employers
- Pension Schemes
- Value Added Tax (VAT)
